The Christmas Spider

Winter had finally come and it was only a few days before Christmas. Miss Spider shivered as she looked through the windows of the houses nearby. “Burr...it’s cold,” she sighed as she looked for a way inside where it was warm.

It was the carolers that gave her a chance to get inside. As she could here them sing “we wish you a merry Christmas..”, she scurried into the house.

She made her home in a corner overlooking the Christmas tree. It was the children who discovered her and dubbed her the Christmas Spider because of the timing of her arrival.

The children pleaded with her parents not to squish her. “Please Dad, it’s Christmas”, they cried. Not wanting to upset the children the loving parents told them to go to sleep because Santa would be coming soon and let the spider be.

The spider not knowing how lucky she had been also went to sleep. She was awoken by the sound of something coming down the chimney. Whatever it was it made awful grunting sound and Miss Spider heard “rippp!!!” then a “thunk!”

There standing before her was plump man with a red and white suit, but something was wrong. Probably because dear Santa had been snacking on too many cookies he had gotten stuck coming down the chimney. This was not the problem. The problem was Santa had gotten himself free at the expense of his fine trousers.

There was now a rather large ill placed tear revealing Santa’s love for hearts underwear. “That’s not right” Santa cried as he felt his backside. “I can’t go from house to house like this.” “Christmas will have to be cancelled.” Santa said sadly to himself.

It was then when things looked there worst that Miss Spider came to the rescue. She crawled up Santa’s leg and spun a web across the opening in Santa’s pants sealing the hole and saving the day. “Thank you, you are truly a Christmas Spider” he smiled and gave her a wink. Then he finished his work with the presents in his magic way, pressed his finger to his nose and with an “aaachew” he shot up the chimney and was gone.

In the morning the house was filled with sounds of happy children opening their presents. Miss Spider found there was even a present for her. She opened it and found a tiny hat, scarf and eight little boots. Now she would never be cold again.

The End
